Open Hearth Hands-On Culinary Experience

Belize is home to a potpourri of cultures each with its own unique signature in clothing, music, language and food. We invite you to learn and immerse yourself in delectable gastronomic experiences tailored by Belize’s Creole, Garifuna, East Indian, Mayan and Mestizo Cultures.

In our classes, you’ll immerse yourself in centuries-old cooking techniques. These techniques are taught on an open hearth in a traditional thatched roof setting known as a Belizean “Bush kitchen.”

Led by Belizean culinary professionals, these classes offer an authentic and immersive experience of the country’s diverse food scene.

Here’s a glimpse of what each culture offers:

Mestizo Monday: Experience the fusion of Spanish and Indigenous cultures with dishes like Salbutes and Chirmole.

East Indian Tuesday: Delight in the culinary delicacies and signature curry seasoning brought to Belize by East Indians in the 18th century.

Creole Wednesday: Indulge in the flavors of the descendants of British settlers and African slaves with dishes like Rice and Beans with stew chicken, fried plantain, and a healthy salad.

Garifuna Thursday: Enjoy delicacies cooked with coconut, seafood, cassava, and plantains, brought to Belize by the Afro-indigenous population from the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent.

Maya Friday: Savor dishes like Kakik Soup and Pibil Tacos, which represent the culinary heritage of Belize’s indigenous Maya people.

We’ve used easily accessible ingredients so that you can replicate these recipes at home. Additionally, each guest will receive a complimentary spice packet, printed recipes, and a brochure describing the culture covered during the two-hour experience.

Special requests and dietary restrictions can be accommodated by notifying our Front Desk or Concierge.
